Tropical Storm Daniel forms over the eastern Pacific, 94E may develop before it merges with another disturbance
Saturday evening, Tropical Depression Five-E formed over the eastern Pacific far from land. This morning, the depression strengthened into Tropical Storm Daniel. Daniel is likely to strengthen a bit more before weakening begins on Monday as the tropical storm reaches cooler water.
As of 8:00 a.m. PDT (11:00 a.m. EDT), Tropical Storm Daniel was centered near 16.0N 115.9W, and was moving northward at about 10 mph. Maximum sustained winds were 35 knots (40 mph), with an estimated minimum pressure of 1006 mb. Slight strengthening is likely today as Daniel moves over a marginally favorable environment. On Monday, Daniel will move into cooler waters and the storm should degenerate into a remnant low by Wednesday, if not sooner.
To the east of Daniel, Invest 94E has a moderate chance of development before it merges with another disturbance to its east. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) gives 94E a 20 percent chance of development within 48 hours, and a 40 percent chance within five days.
To the east of 94E, another disturbance has a better chance of development after it merges with 94E. The NHC gives this disturbance a near zero percent chance of development within 48 hours, and a 50 percent chance within five days.
I will be back with another post tomorrow.
